I’m often asked which artists insfire me but the bright answer is that it’s really everyday objects that spark the best pie-deas. An neon and anything is flare game. There are designs in this feed modeled after bamboo purses, lawn chairs, bathroom walls, and math puzzles. So glow forth and color outside the shines this weekend. The pie is the limit.  Date: June 14, 2018   Stripe for the picking. 👌🏽| Hey, blue there! Guess what? I’m hosting the ultimate pie workshop    @bowhillblueberries   this summer on August 4. We’ll start the afternoon with a farm tour, a bloob tasting, and a U-pick blueberry session! Then we’ll make some berry-colored crust and cram our pies full of freshly picked fruit. The day wraps with wine and snacks in the field because of course. It’s going to be the piefect summer Saturday. ✨ Tickets go on sale on my website on June 22 at 9am PST. Cranberry and Lime Curd Tart with Mango Tiles
 Date: April 11, 2018   Neon the lookout. 👀| Sundry apples, the dredges of the miso caramel jar, and miscellaneous portions of beet and blueberry dough from the freezer because spring cleaning. | In other v boring housekeeping items (waaaay too much laughing on the last post, must dial back the fun 😉), anyone have a surefire solution for cleaning the inside of the oven door? Not sure what the previous tenants exploded in there, but I’ve been scrubbing for a year. The fewer the chemicals, the better (but so far, baking soda/vinegar/dish soap have not proven effective). 🆘 And while we’re at it, I’m also accepting strategies for getting in summer shape without exercising and giving up salty snacks. Spanx in advance. 🙃

Like, knowing that my preferred toothpaste brand is Sensodyne and that my favorite ice cream is Chocolate Malted Krunch (remember those 5-cent scoops from Thrifty?!) and that I’ve pooped my pants twice in my adult life is not going to make anyone more comfortable. But now that I’ve voluntold myself to go first, what’s your fourteenth most embarrassing moment? 🐢| It’s been a minute since I’ve done one of these hand-sliced layer tarts. Vegan Black Sesame Tart with Colored Tangrams
 Date: February 21, 2018   Machine squash cold. Tumble dry dough. 👕| Laundry is my personal nemesis and I also happen to be terrible at it (or perhaps it’s causal?). I lazily toss the whole lot in together, press the auto button, and expect everything to turn out well. I think we all know it doesn’t work like that... 😬 In any case, I’m over here keeping a clothes eye on the washing machine, so get a load of my baked Chai Masala Pumpkin Pie from last fall (recipe by  @taraobrady  via  @Food52 ). I do have some exciting things in the fold for later this week, so stay tuned!

 Date: February 14, 2018   March to a different beet. 🥁| Because were goobers by principle, Valentine’s is an extended excuse for lighthearted, unorthodox traditions for my partner and I—exchanging joke presents (a bouquet of boxers one year, an obese plush T-Rex another) and watching  @pinkpanthermgm  (the really bad/amazing remakes with Steve Martin). In our golden San Diego days, we’d load up the car with  @tjoysterbar  tacos and Sour Patch Kids and go to the drive-in theater in our pajamas. This unusually-colored pie crust is an ode to our philosophy that an important aspect of any relationship is fun. Here’s to merriment! | Special thanks to  @chefspringsheldon  who, after my experiment with raspberry dough went ham (🤣), kindly sent an email walking me through the process of vibrantly coloring with beet compound butter and beet juice! Genius. 💖

Colored pie crust has been clattering around in the back of my mind for months now but I haven’t had time to experiment. Then  @linda_lomelino  posted her luscious purple-crusted pie and took the guesswork out of it by sharing the recipe on her blog. 🙏🏽 I used freeze-dried raspberries I had on hand instead of blueberry powder, so things are only porcine in color. 🐷 Must run more tests!  Date: January 4, 2018   All pretz are off. 🥨| I started making  @husbandsthatcook ’s Nutella Cream Pie before I realized that I didn’t have enough Nutella or any mascarpone...you know, just the two main ingredients. Dur. 🤦🏻‍♀️ So this evolved into a peanut butter Nutella tart with a pretzel crust situation instead, and is specially dedicated to all of you on New Year’s diets! 😈 To health, wealth, and better-stocked pantries! 😬

This one hurt the brain but the finished product was pretty satisfying. And by some stroke of wild internet magix, here we are. 😳 I’m perpetually shocked, a bit overwhelmed (omg, I can’t keep up...sorry if I’ve missed your tags/comments!), but mostly just really grateful. There are legitimate food legends advocating for me, strangers from all over the world cheering me on, and a deep reserve of family and friends so generously sharing their expertise and resources to propel me on what is now a real journey.
